A program for all abilities

We believe every young person deserves to have access to the SLSWA Woodside Nippers program. Starfish Nippers allows young people of all abilities to be part of a structured program where they feel included and can learn critical beach skills while having fun.

What is Starfish Nippers?

The Starfish Nippers program focuses on beach and water safety awareness and promotes inclusion and diversity. It features modified Woodside Nippers beach and water activities such as games, running, beach flags, wading, swimming and boards.

Who is it for?

The program is designed for young people from Under 6 to 17 who have been diagnosed with a disability, including physical and intellectual disabilities and learning difficulties, and can be modified to suit an individual participant’s needs so everyone can be included.

When does it run?

The program will be held for 6 weeks, every Sunday morning from 8 February to 15 March.

What are the benefits?

Based on the positive feedback we have received, it is apparent that there are not only benefits for our Starfish Nippers and their families, but for all of our Mentor, Woodside Nippers and club members.

Starfish Nippers will learn life skills from excellent role models (their one-on-one mentors), increasing their beach and water safety knowledge and improving their swimming and board skills, while developing their fitness and improving their coordination.

We hope to see their confidence increase as they interact with their peers and club members and encourage each other to have fun together in an inclusive community environment.
